nine commissioners are appointed by the Minister for Sport, Fitness and Leisure
for a period of three years. Current Commissioners are:
Chairman Former All Black captain,
coach and manager. A farmer in the Wairarapa. Brian is a New Zealand Masters tennis
David Gerrard OBE
Deputy Chairman Sports physician
from Otago University. Former Commonwealth Games butterfly gold medallist. A long
involvement with the Olympic movement, Chef de Mission for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic
Chairman Otago netball coach,of Oamaru.
New Zealand netball representative from 1973-75. Georgina is also Talent 2000
co-ordinator for Netball New Zealand.
Secretary of Internal Affairs, based
in Wellington. Roger is the representative of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Mayoress of Auckland City. Former
New Zealand representative athlete, and a member of the Commission's Women's Taskforce
in 1989. She has a long professional involvement in the fitness industry.
Barrister in Wellington. David is
on the board of New Zealand Tennis and was the first fair play commissioner for
the Rugby Union. He is a Commission representative on the New Zealand Sports Foundation.
Principal of Nelson College for Girls
and a trustee of Sport Tasman, Alison has had a long involvement with school and
outdoor sports. She is a past representative for netball and basketball.
Chief Executive, Thames Coromandel
District Council. After a career in Army management, Lindsay spent six years in
Paliamentary and Ministerial Service. He has played representative provincial
rugby in both Australia and New Zealand.
