School Sports

Hyperzine hopes you all had a great summer holiday
and made the most of the fantastic weather.

During the summer months, kids all over New Zealand were camping, tramping, swimming, surfing, bungy jumping, playing sports, watching sports and enjoying the outdoors. Let us know what kind of activities you got up to - use the email form on the grafitti wall to send us your summer sports news.

Future Champions
Just before school finished last year, the 1998 Sunday Star-Times Sportfit Future Champions were announced. The awards acknowledge the sporting achievements of young sportspeople at schools all over New Zealand. Click here to find out about the awards and who the 1998 Champs are.

International Events
Did you know that, as you head back to school, there are lots of international sporting events taking place all over New Zealand?

Keep an eye out for news about the 470 Class Junior World Yachting Championships in Auckland, 8 - 14 February, and if you're into canoeing, the Wildwater World Cup in Taupo, Buller and Queenstown from 13 to 28 February will be an exciting event.

Another one to look out for is The World Kneeboard Surfing Championships, in Opunake on from 2 to 11 April.

Check the next issue of Hyperzine (after the Easter holidays) for coverage of the Wildwater World Cup and news from schools around the country.

Don't forget - your school could be featured on this page!
We're on the hunt for stories and photos about your school's sports activities during 1999. Check out the Sports Journalism project for some ideas about reporting on sport.
